A stepping stone to careers in the construction industry

By the end of this training course, the trainee will be able to:

Identify the main characteristics of the building and civil engineering sector, as well as its main trades;

Understand the realities and working conditions specific to the sector;

Identify the basic skills required to work in the construction and civil engineering sector;

Acquire a basic understanding of the technical and technological concepts associated with the various trades;

Adopt the professional attitudes and behaviour expected within the sector;

Identify training and employment opportunities, as well as career progression prospects within the construction and civil engineering sector.

Training aims to provide the basic knowledge needed to progress towards a vocational training programme in the building trades.

It is organised in several stages, allowing for step-by-step progression. It alternates between theoretical input, practical application and assessment sessions to encourage hands-on, progressive learning.

01 – DISCOVERING THE TRADES AND THE CONSTRUCTION SECTOR

- The various trades within the construction sector (energy efficiency, structural work, finishing work) and the specific characteristics of the construction industry (safety, organisation, physical demands);

- The specific features of construction companies (organisation, operations);

- The advantages and challenges of the various trades;

- Employment opportunities and career prospects.

02 - DEVELOPMENT OF BEHAVIOURAL SKILLS, COMMUNICATION EXPECTATIONS, SELF-AWARENESS

- Communication techniques

- Stress management

- Concepts of risk, organisation and customer relations

- Working as part of a team and independently

03 - ACQUISITION OF CROSS-FUNCTIONAL OPERATIONAL SKILLS RELEVANT TO THE CONSTRUCTION SECTOR

Throughout the programme, learners receive personalised support with regular monitoring by the teaching team and progress reviews to tailor the learning to each individual’s needs.

Each module is based on real-life professional scenarios commonly encountered in the construction industry. Techniques are addressed in the context of the specific challenges of each activity and supplemented, where necessary, by theoretical input. Particular attention is paid to mastering practical skills, ensuring the safety of people and equipment, and keeping pace with technological developments in the sector.

- Have a good grasp of basic skills: reading, oral and written communication, and the ability to understand and carry out simple logical and mathematical operations;

• Fully classroom-based training

The training course takes place in person at the centre, which provides the ideal setting for building group dynamics, encouraging interactive discussions between trainees and making use of professional equipment.

Positioning upstream of training entry.

Education Nationale certified teachers, Bac +3 trainers with significant experience in adult education, professional lecturers.

A preliminary assessment is carried out at the start of the course to identify each trainee’s existing skills and learning needs.

Throughout the course, and particularly at the halfway point, self-assessments and formative assessments enable trainees to gauge their progress and identify the skills they still need to develop.

Each trainee is provided with a personal portfolio containing their assessments, work samples and the teaching team’s observations and recommendations.

At the end of the course, a final assessment evaluates what has been learnt and the progress made. It also helps to identify, where necessary, the skills that need to be strengthened in order to achieve a specific professional or training objective.
