The BIM coordinator ensures that charters, methods and protocols are properly applied to projects to be carried out using a BIM approach. They ensure that the digital mock-up is continuously enhanced. As the guarantor of its quality, he or she contributes to the optimum execution of the work and the achievement of the company's objectives. The BIM coordinator's role lies at the interface between the BIM Manager and the BIM modeller. They take account of the BIM Manager's expectations and report back to him. The BIM coordinator is well versed in modelling techniques, and assists and informs the BIM modellers in their production activities. They help them to master dedicated tools and develop their technical skills. The BIM coordinator is entrusted with BIM project management and team coordination tasks. They may, however, retain all or part of the role of BIM modeller depending on the size and organisation of the structure in which they work.
The BIM modeller's contacts may include modellers, design and methods technicians or site managers. They liaise with the BIM Manager and the project manager, any BIM coordinators identified on the project among the company's subcontractors or other companies involved in the project, and more generally all those involved in the act of building. The job is based on collaborative working, and requires strong organisational and interpersonal skills, as well as an aptitude for IT and digital tools. Most of the work is carried out on the company's premises. Depending on the specifics of a project, some travel may be required, particularly during working meetings and discussions on the quality and consistency of the model.
The two Certificates of Professional Competence (CCP) that make up the level 6 professional qualification ( bachelor's or master's degree) are:
