 HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) Maintenance Agent vocational qualification

At the end of their training, holders of this Professional Qualification will be able to:

- operate heating production, chilled water production, hydraulic distribution and air treatment equipment, known as HVAC systems in tertiary and industrial buildings.

- perform start-up, partial or total shutdown and regular operating readings on equipment.

- apply, if the need arises, a written procedure for safeguarding or putting the equipment into a degraded operating state.

- carry out level 2 preventive and corrective operations on this equipment as part of a maintenance contract.

- work effectively as part of a maintenance team made up of several agents and technicians under the responsibility of a unit manager.

- comply with health and safety rules during his/her work, particularly in the use of personal protective equipment, and manage the waste associated with the maintenance of the premises, the cleanliness of which he/she is responsible for.

When working on thermodynamic equipment, you will have obtained an aptitude certificate for handling category 1 refrigerants.


The training is organised into several skill modules, allowing for step-by-step progression. It alternates between theoretical input, practical exercises and assessment sessions to promote practical and progressive learning.

BC01 – Operating HVAC equipment

  • Commissioning or decommissioning HVAC equipment
  • Recording operational data for HVAC equipment
  • Restoring HVAC equipment to operational condition following a fault

BC02 - Carry out Level 2 preventive and corrective maintenance on heating equipment and heating and domestic hot water distribution systems

  • Carry out preventive maintenance on heating equipment and heating and domestic hot water distribution networks
  • Carry out simple repairs to heating equipment and heating and domestic hot water distribution networks

BC03 - Carry out Level 2 preventive and corrective maintenance on air-handling equipment

  • Carry out preventive maintenance on air-handling equipment
  • Carry out simple repairs to air-handling equipment

BC04 - Carry out level 2 preventive and corrective maintenance on thermodynamic equipment and chilled water distribution systems

  • Carry out preventative maintenance on thermodynamic equipment and chilled water distribution systems
  • Carry out simple repairs to thermodynamic equipment and chilled water distribution systems

Throughout the course, trainees receive personalised support with regular monitoring by the teaching team and progress reviews to tailor the learning to each individual’s needs.

A work placement also enables learners to develop their professional skills in a real-world setting.

Skills are assessed progressively through role-plays, practical exercises, professional projects and assessments carried out throughout the course.

Our teaching methodology prioritises a practical, work-focused approach: case studies, role-plays, practical scenarios and collaborative activities enable learning in conditions that closely resemble the real working world.

Maximum total duration of 1,084 hours, comprising 175 hours in a workplace and 909 hours at a training centre.

    The training course takes place in person at the centre, which provides the ideal setting for building group dynamics, encouraging interactive discussions between trainees and making use of professional equipment.

For this professional qualification, ongoing assessments (ECF) are organised throughout the course to evaluate the candidate’s progress and their mastery of professional skills.

The final examination takes place before a two-member examination panel comprising professionals from the sector. It comprises a professional role-play and an interview based on the professional portfolio (DP), which highlights the experience and skills developed by the candidate.

The final examination takes place within two months of the end of the training course.

The examination panel validates all or part of the Professional Qualification. In the event of partial validation, the professional competence certificates (CCP) (or competence modules) obtained are valid for a period of five years.

The candidate may subsequently complete the missing modules to obtain the Professional Qualification in its entirety.
