An artificial intelligence developer is a specialist in developing applications that incorporate features utilising artificial intelligence. They develop computer programmes that integrate artificial intelligence models and are capable of thinking and performing tasks normally carried out by humans.
This role requires the ability to collaborate and interact with a wide range of other professionals in the fields of linguistics, statistics, ergonomics and user experience. As part of the process of resolving a business problem defined by the organisation, their role is to develop IT solutions that can be used by both specialists and non-specialists, directly or indirectly incorporating existing artificial intelligence building blocks (e.g. machine learning algorithms).
As the artificial intelligence sector has matured and entered a phase of industrialisation, the tools and services available to professionals have expanded, and an initial methodological framework has become widely established: MLOps (short for Machine Learning and Operations). The role of an artificial intelligence developer has been transformed, at least in part. In particular, they are involved in implementing MLOps practices as part of their development and testing tasks. They are also involved in the development and integration of testing and monitoring for artificial intelligence models.
They are therefore specialists in IT development, software engineering and human-machine interfaces, with a very good understanding of the challenges, technologies and life cycle of an artificial intelligence project.
