At the end of their training, professional marquetry workers will be able to:

• create, reproduce or restore marquetry on objects, decorative elements or furniture.
• prepare and apply, by gluing, ornamental motifs cut from different materials (precious wood, tortoiseshell, horn, mother-of-pearl, etc.) to wooden surfaces.
• Then inlay elements, in accordance with the design pattern;

The professional can work on furniture, musical instruments, paintings, decorative panels...

Execution of a marquetry work

• Preparatory study of the work to be made (drawing, modelling): preparation of hand tools, veneers, materials.
• Reporting the original drawing
• Redrawing and toning the elements of the drawing
• Cutting the notch and elements
• Making a curly background, shading, inlays, finishes

Graphic design

• Drawing of a decorative element based on a document survey, a documentary study or simple decorative research.

• Characteristics of wood, glues and their use, woodworking and finishing techniques,

Stylistic analysis in wood arts

• Commented critical stylistic analysis
• Comparative study of two creations
• Identification, classification and hierarchisation of stylistic elements

French and history-geography-moral and civic education

• Moral and civic education:Developing a critical mind, getting involved in a project and respecting a plurality of points of view.
• French: written and oral expression, becoming a competent reader, reading, saying and writing about the profession.
• History-Geography: contextualising, finding one's bearings, memorising and gaining the ability to read, taking a historical or geographical approach and justifying it, collaborating and exchanging.

Mathematics / Physics - Chemistry: engage in a scientific approach and appropriate mathematical and scientific tools

Health and Environment Prevention: risk prevention in the workplace, health and environment capital, the informed consumer individual.

Common Language 1: understanding, expressing oneself and interacting both orally and in writing in simple and familiar communication situations

Direct entry into employment mainly with artisan cabinetmakers and restorers of antique furniture and objects or in a high-end manufacturing workshop.

Continuation of studies possible with a vocational baccalaureate (bac pro) or master's certificate (brevet de maîtrise) in a woodworking speciality (cabinetmaking, woodcarving, etc.) leading to a Diplôme de fin d'études secondaires des métiers d'art (DFESMA) specialising in sculpture or to another CAP Tourneur or Sculpteur Ornemaniste to broaden the range of skills.
