CAP AEPE - Early Childhood Educational Assistant

Acquire the qualification and skills for the reception, care and maintenance of the living environment of children under 6 years of age, in nursery schools/collective childcare centres for minors, at the parents' home or at their own home, in collective childcare establishments/services:

- conduct activities to entertain and awaken young children with the aim of learning the rules of collective living, helping them to acquire independence, and assisting in their emotional, intellectual and sensory development.

- carry out daily care activities (care, bodily hygiene, help with meals) in line with the child's physiological, emotional and physical safety needs.

- carry out sanitary maintenance activities.

- establish a relationship of trust with children and parents.

This diploma enables you to sit the eligibility tests for the auxiliary nursery nurse training course as well as the ATSEM competition organised by local authorities.

Exercising one's activity in collective childcare

• Inserting one's action in the network of child-parent-professional relations.
• Exercising one's activity in nursery schools.
• Exercising one's activity in EAJE (reception and development of young children) and ACM (collective reception of minors).
  

Exercising one's activity in individual childcare

• Exercising one's activity in one's own home, the parents' home or in a childminder's home

4 Blocks of General Skills: Français - Histoire/Géographie, Maths/Sciences, Prévention Sécurité Environnement, Éducation Physique et Sportive (for apprentices)

NB: Possibility of exemption from general education modules under certain conditions.

The training also includes a minimum of 448 hours of practical training in a professional situation, i.e. 14 weeks with a minimum weekly duration of 32 hours.

Alternation of theoretical lessons, practical work in specialised rooms (childcare rooms, kitchens), supervised work in the resource centre, assisted self-training on original learning dossiers designed by the GRETA-CFA as part of the new reference framework.

• All audiences

- a minimum knowledge of the early childhood sector, through work experience (immersion in a professional environment, work placements or jobs), an assessment, support for the professional project as part of various schemes.

- oral and written comprehension of the French language and basic numeracy or a level equivalent to 3ème in general education (French, history geography and mathematics), obtained as part of initial schooling or refresher courses as part of a continuing education scheme such as CLEA, ETAPS or others.

- dexterity, ability to work in a team.

The CAP leads to working life but it is possible, under certain conditions, to continue by preparing a bac pro or to prepare for the entrance examinations for certain State Diplomas in the health and social sector.
