Upon completion of the course, holders of this BTS qualification will be able to:

- to carry out the technical management of installations and structures, taking into account their overall impact on the environment (direct or indirect pollution) and the management of the corresponding by-products.

- to participate in technical studies across various fields: the environment, the design and modification of facilities, research and development, etc.

- to oversee the operation of the network and organise maintenance operations

- to supervise a team in water treatment, distribution, sanitation and purification operations, as well as in related activities in the environmental sector.

- to contribute to sustainable development by helping to ensure water quality, taking into account its intended use, energy savings and environmental impact.

- liaise with external partners: customers, partner companies, suppliers, government bodies, etc.

- to adapt to technological developments in instrumentation, electromechanical equipment, automation, and remote transmission and monitoring systems in order to carry out these tasks.


The training course is organised into several skill modules, enabling step-by-step progression. It alternates between theoretical input, practical exercises and assessment sessions to promote hands-on, progressive learning.

BC01: Operation of treatment units and networks

  • role of each piece of equipment within the plant
  • operational status (monitoring programmes, control procedures, technical data sheets, operating manual)
  • measurements and analyses of monitoring parameters
  • supply of products and disposal of by-products and waste
  • adapting control procedures to the operating mode
  • maintenance operations
  • performance criteria and associated objectives

BC02: Quality, Safety and Environment

  • regulatory, standardised and local requirements, and their scope of application.
  • the quality assurance system (QAS)
  • prevention of ‘health, safety and environment’ risks
  • areas for improvement and actions contributing to the continuous improvement process.

BC03: Professional relations and team management

  • stakeholders in the water sector
  • monitoring service delivery in accordance with the terms of a contract
  • the economic and organisational context of their organisation
  • information processing, communication, presentation of arguments
  • planning of human and material resources
  • preparation and conduct of meetings and one-to-one interviews

BC04: Design of treatment plants and networks

  • analysis of service requirements and formalisation
  • selection of water treatment, collection, transport and distribution processes
  • evaluation of service provision

Throughout the course, learners receive personalised support with regular monitoring by the teaching team and progress reviews to tailor learning to each individual’s needs.

A work placement also enables students to develop professional skills in a real-world setting.

Skills are assessed progressively through role-plays, practical exercises, professional projects and assessments carried out throughout the course.

Our teaching methodology prioritises a practical, work-focused approach: case studies, role-plays, practical scenarios and collaborative activities enable learners to learn in conditions that closely resemble the real-world workplace.

Maximum total duration of 3220 hours, including 1870 hours in a company and 1350 hours at the training centre.

    Assessments are organised throughout the course and at the end of the programme, in accordance with the qualification framework. Assessment tests may take the form of in-course assessments (CCF) and/or final examinations.

    Support with exam preparation is provided throughout the course to help candidates succeed.

    This qualification is awarded following validation by the academic examination board.

    If a candidate fails the qualification, they retain credit for the modules they have passed and may retake the remaining examinations at a later date. The modules passed remain valid for 5 years
