- complex preventive and corrective maintenance of vehicles;
- complex diagnosis of mechanical systems, powertrains and electronically managed, multiplexed systems and powertrain components on electric and hybrid vehicles;
- customer reception and follow-up;
- organisation of the after-sales workshop;
- marketing of services and products.
with ongoing consideration of the following imperatives:
- occupational health/safety imperative: this involves safeguarding people's health and ensuring the prevention of occupational hazards;
- environmental imperative: this involves applying current environmental standards;
- quality imperative: this involves contributing to the constant improvement of customer satisfaction by applying internal company procedures.

The BTS Maintenance des véhicules option véhicules de transport routier is open to anyone with a baccalauréat: bac professionnel de la maintenance et de la réparation, bac STI2D. Access is based on a portfolio, tests and/or interview.

It is possible to continue on to a vocational degree in the industrial production or maintenance sectors, an ATS preparatory class to enter an engineering school or a vocational school for automotive network business (EPCRA).
The holder of this diploma can then work in the workshops of companies in manufacturers' networks, HGV garages affiliated to a network of stockist distributors or independent garages without a brand name and tyre specialists
Access to the following professions:
- diagnostic technician;
- after-sales customer advisor;
- workshop team leader;
- workshop manager.

Workshop receptionist, service advisor, team or unit manager, diagnostics technician, manufacturer's technical advisor are the most common jobs and functions in after-sales departments.
The professional licences available (bac+3) concern the mechanical engineering sector (engineering sciences, industrial techniques pathway, electronic equipment) and the bodywork sector (technology, maintenance of multi-technology systems). A technical-commercial orientation may also be considered.
