The introduction of computers, digital technology, new technologies and new software in recent years has profoundly changed the communications and graphics industries. New techniques have emerged with the arrival of digital presses. The major traditional processes (offset, rotogravure, flexography, screen printing, etc.) have been profoundly modified, not in their basic principle, but in their implementation. The preparation stage of the printing forms is now entirely computer-based, and the digital files produced allow fine pre-setting (production and finishing equipment, presses, guillotines, folding machines, etc.). Digital flows constrain the entire production chain. Production start-up, press calibration and colour management are increasingly automated.
