BTS CPI - Industrial Product Design

The holder of the Advanced Technician's Certificate in "Industrial Product Design" will work in the fields of design and definition of mechanical assemblies, whether or not they are integrated into a multi-technical system. They work in collaboration with specialists in the fields of motorisation, automation, energy, transformation processes, etc. as part of a design team led by a project manager. They are mainly involved at the start of the product design and production chain (customer relations, preliminary and detailed design and pre-industrialisation in direct contact with production specialists). On completion of the course, you will be able to:

• Participate in the response to a project: analyse the expression of a need and draw up functional specifications
• Proceed with preliminary and detailed design: design and choose a technical solution for a mechanism, pre-industrialise and define an optimised technical solution for a mechanism
• Participate in the life of a design office

The course is organised into several skill modules, enabling step-by-step progression. It alternates between theoretical input, practical application and assessment sessions in order to promote hands-on, progressive learning.

Vocational training modules:

Block 1 – Defining industrial design requirements and functional specifications

• Searching for information in technical documentation, on a local network or remotely
• Drafting or contributing to the drafting of functional specifications

Block 2 - Preliminary industrial design

• Identify and specify technologies and production methods
• Devise and propose technical solutions in response to a set of specifications
• Dimension all or part of a power train independently and/or in collaboration with a specialist
• Optimise the choice of a technical solution, taking into account technical and economic constraints

Module 3 - Detailed industrial design

• Design and define, using CAD software and associated simulation tools, all or part of an assembly
• Integrate eco-design into product design
• Draw up the specification dossier for a mechanical product (dimensioned and toleranced parts)

Module 4 - Prototyping in industrial design and production

• Integrate prototyping into product design
• Integrate prototyping into product production

Module 5 - Leading a collaborative optimisation project

• Participating in a project group and justifying technical choices
• Taking part in a collaborative product design and production process

General education modules : French; Mathematics and Physical Sciences; Economics and Management; Modern Foreign Language

Throughout the programme, learners receive personalised support with regular monitoring by the teaching team and progress reviews to tailor learning to each individual’s needs.

A work placement also enables students to develop professional skills in a real-world setting.

Skills are assessed progressively through role-plays, practical exercises, professional projects and assessments carried out throughout the course.

Our teaching methodology prioritises a practical, work-focused approach: case studies, role-plays, practical scenarios and collaborative activities enable learning in conditions that closely resemble the real-world workplace.

Assessments are organised throughout the course and at the end of the programme, in accordance with the qualification framework. Assessment tests may take the form of in-course assessments (CCF) and/or final examinations.

Support with exam preparation is provided throughout the course to help candidates succeed.

This qualification is awarded following validation by the academic examination board.

If a candidate fails the qualification, they retain credit for the modules they have passed and may retake the remaining examinations at a later date. The modules passed remain valid for 5 years
