 BAC PRO Vehicle Maintenance - Road Transport Vehicle Option

To master preventive and corrective maintenance and diagnostic activities of an initial level of complexity on vehicles equipped with internal combustion, hybrid and electric engines.

- periodic and preventive vehicle maintenance;
- diagnostics and bringing mechanical systems, powertrains and electronic and multiplexed management systems up to standard;
- technical advice to customers on the work carried out.

with ongoing consideration of the following imperatives:

- occupational health/safety imperative: this involves safeguarding people's health and ensuring the prevention of occupational hazards;
- environmental imperative: this involves applying current environmental standards;
- quality imperative: this involves contributing to the constant improvement of customer satisfaction by applying internal company procedures.


The course is organised into several skill modules, enabling step-by-step progression. It alternates between theoretical input, practical application and assessment sessions in order to promote practical and progressive learning.

BC01 - Carrying out routine vehicle maintenance

  • Organising routine maintenance

  • Carry out replacement and adjustment work as part of routine maintenance
  • Provide technical advice to customers on vehicle maintenance

BC02 - Carry out corrective maintenance on vehicles

  • Prepare a corrective maintenance job

  • Adjust or configure systems
  • Carry out quality control checks on corrective work

BC03 - Carry out diagnostics on vehicle systems

  • Identify a fault
  • Prioritise hypotheses
  • Implement an existing or yet-to-be-defined intervention protocol
  • Identify corrective solutions

Throughout the programme, learners receive personalised support with regular monitoring by the teaching team and progress reviews to tailor learning to each individual’s needs.

A work placement also enables students to develop professional skills in a real-world setting.

Skills are assessed progressively through role-plays, practical exercises, professional projects and assessments carried out throughout the course.

Our teaching methodology prioritises a practical, work-focused approach: case studies, role-plays, practical scenarios and collaborative activities enable learning in conditions that closely mirror the real-world workplace.

Maximum total duration of 3,550 hours, including 2,200 hours on the job and 1,350 hours at the training centre.

    The training course takes place in person at the centre, which provides the ideal setting for building group dynamics, encouraging interactive discussions between trainees and making use of professional equipment.

Assessments are organised throughout the course and at the end of the programme, in accordance with the qualification framework. Assessment tests may take the form of in-course assessments (CCF) and/or final examinations.

Support with exam preparation is provided throughout the course to help candidates succeed.

This qualification is awarded following validation by the academic examination board.

If a candidate fails the qualification, they retain credit for the modules they have passed and may retake the remaining examinations at a later date. The modules passed remain valid for 5 years

This workshop technician can work in the workshops of manufacturers' network companies, road transport vehicle garages affiliated to a stockist distributor network or independent garages without a brand name and tyre specialists .

  • Career prospects: The primary aim of the vocational baccalaureate in vehicle maintenance, specialising in road transport vehicles, is to prepare students for a career as a mechanic.

  • Further study options: With an excellent academic record or a distinction in the examination, students may continue their studies on the BTS in Vehicle Maintenance, specialising in Road Transport Vehicles, the Vocational Qualification  Expert After-Sales Technician for Commercial and Industrial Vehicles (TFP TEAVVUI), or other supplementary specialisations.

  • ‘Réussite’ programme:
    •  Having left secondary school at Year 9 with very poor grades, Alex B doubted his ability to enter the highly technical field of road transport vehicle maintenance. He regained his confidence during his two-year CAP apprenticeship and has just gone on to achieve his vocational A-level, whilst still working for the same employer. He is thriving in his professional and educational environment.
