Acquire the specialisation required to develop the following professional skills :
-Repair and assess the person's dependence and autonomy in daily care
-Set up a helping relationship
-Accompany a patient with Alzheimer's disease throughout the day
-Ask about the meaning of activities for the person (with whom? and for whom?)
-Transmitting information and suggesting procedures to be followed on a daily basis
-Participating in a common culture of care in the specific approach to patients with Alzheimer's disease.

The gerontology care assistant provides support in the acts of daily living for people made fragile by Alzheimer's disease, and for their relatives.

Using the knowledge available, they carry out appropriate hygiene and comfort care, and participate in the rehabilitation and stimulation of abilities.


The training covers 5 areas of training:

DF1: Contributing to the development and implementation of the individualised project with respect for the person

Alzheimer's disease and related disorders

The rights of the person

The duties of the professional 

The individualised project

The fundamental importance of working with the family/carer

Knowledge of networks and the various reception structures and services : Staying at home and moving into an institution

Multi-professional teamwork

DF2: Helping and supporting people in the acts of daily living, taking into account their needs and degree of autonomy

The helping relationship

Particularities of support for a person with Alzheimer's disease

Support during the different times of the day, supports for the relationship

Food and nutritional status

Support during complex activities

DF3: Setting up social and cognitive stimulation activities in conjunction with psychomotor therapists, occupational therapists or psychologists

Community life

The family

The importance of appropriate communication

Definition and objectives of the main activities: cognitive, motor, social and sensory activities

General organisation of activities

DF4: Understanding and interpreting the main parameters related to the state of health

Essential notions in anatomy and physiology of the human body

Pathological situations and consequences on the clinical state of the person

Notion of illness

Observation approach to a situation: clinical signs, change in clinical state, alert and emergency

Evaluation

Psychological and behavioural signs: spotting, understanding, favourable elements and what to do

Cognitive-behavioural functions

DF5: Carry out daily care using appropriate techniques.

Care situations

Basic notions of the main associated geriatric pathologies

Notions of pharmacology

Care approach 

Care techniques appropriate to Alzheimer's disease

This training course is aimed exclusively at qualified professionals who hold a State diploma in Care Aid, Medical-Psychological Aid, or Educational and Social Accompaniment.
