Equivalences and pathways: to be assessed on a case-by-case basis depending on the candidate’s background: The TOEIC is not a qualification but an English language proficiency test. It does not therefore in itself constitute a course of study that leads to further education. Rather, it serves as a language qualification to gain access to certain courses or jobs. Possible uses of the TOEIC: Access to further education A good TOEIC score may be required to: gain entry to certain business or engineering schools enter university master’s programmes take part in university exchange programmes or study abroad validate English proficiency for certain courses. Career entry The TOEIC is often used by companies to certify a level of English for roles such as: international trade tourism and hospitality transport and logistics communications or international relations companies operating internationally. Supplement to a qualification The TOEIC is generally used to supplement a qualification (BTS, bachelor’s degree, business school, etc.) to improve employability. Conclusion: There is no specific pathway following a TOEIC test alone. It is a tool for certifying English proficiency, used to gain access to courses or jobs, but it is not a qualification that directly opens academic pathways.
