 Vocational Training Certificate - Vehicle Maintenance Mechanic

At the end of the training course, the car maintenance mechanic will be able to:

- carry out all routine maintenance operations using a methodology, following the manufacturer's recommendations and taking account of the indications on the work sheets.

- carry out the replacement of mechanical elements and components of the ground connection, transmission and power train.
- intervene on the vehicle to replace the mechanical components of the visibility and signalling systems or to fit directly connectable accessories.
- operate on any type of vehicle for transporting nine people or less and for transporting goods weighing less than 3.5 tonnes, vehicles powered mainly by internal combustion engines.

- apply the rules of hygiene, safety, health protection at work and respect for the environment.


The training is organised into several skill modules, allowing for step-by-step progression. It alternates between theoretical input, practical exercises and assessment sessions to promote practical and progressive learning.

BC01 -  Carrying out routine maintenance, replacing tyres and brake system components on motor vehicles

  • Carry out routine maintenance on a motor vehicle
  • Replace tyres and brake system components
  • Work on a vehicle air-conditioning system

BC02 - Replace the suspension, steering, transmission, signalling and visibility components of motor vehicles and fit connectable accessories

  • Replace and adjust steering and suspension components
  • Repair damaged mechanical assemblies
  • Replace transmission components
  • Replace signalling and visibility components, and fit connectable accessories

BC03 - Replace the timing system and internal combustion engine of motor vehicles

  • Carry out work on a vehicle air-conditioning system
  • Replace the internal combustion engine and its peripheral equipment
  • Replace the timing system of the internal combustion engine

Before the end of their training, the professional will also have obtained:

  • an electrical certification in accordance with standard NF C 18-550.
  • a licence to handle refrigerants, Group 2, Category V
  • outside of the training programme, a Category B driving licence, to drive vehicles from collection to return.

Throughout the programme, learners receive personalised support with regular monitoring by the teaching team and progress reviews to tailor the learning to each individual’s needs.

A work placement also enables students to develop their professional skills in a real-world setting.

Skills are assessed progressively through role-plays, practical exercises, professional projects and assessments carried out throughout the course.

Our teaching methodology prioritises a practical, work-focused approach: case studies, role-plays, practical scenarios and collaborative activities enable learners to learn in conditions that closely resemble the real working world.


  • Professional qualification from the Ministry of Labour Level 3

Maximum total duration of 910 hours, including 175 hours in a company and 735 hours at the training centre.
The duration of the course is indicative and will be determined according to your profile.

For this professional qualification, ongoing assessments (ECF) are organised throughout the course to evaluate the candidate’s progress and their mastery of professional skills.

The final examination takes place before a two-member examination panel comprising professionals from the sector. It comprises a professional role-play and an interview based on the professional portfolio (DP), which highlights the experience and skills developed by the candidate.

The final examination takes place within two months of the end of the training course.

The examination panel validates all or part of the Professional Qualification. In the event of partial validation, the professional competence certificates (CCP) (or competence modules) obtained are valid for a period of five years.

The candidate may subsequently complete the missing modules to obtain the Professional Qualification in its entirety.
