Mental health first aid is the help that is given to a person who is experiencing the onset of a mental health disorder, a deterioration of a mental health disorder or who is in a mental health crisis phase. First aid is given until professional help can be provided or until the crisis is resolved. It is the mental health equivalent of first aid, which provides physical assistance to a person in difficulty.
