Upon completion of this training programme, the successful candidate will be able to:

Carry out the preparation, maintenance and routine repairs of bicycles and electric-assist bicycles:

• Prepare bicycles and electric-assist bicycles
• Carry out routine maintenance on bicycles and electric-assist bicycles
• Carry out routine repairs on bicycles and electric-assist bicycles 

This training programme leads to the first certificate of professional competence (CCP) for the professional qualification ‘Technical Assistant – Sports Equipment Sales Assistant’, which comprises three CCPs, including the BC03 specialising in snow sports

BC01 - Carry out the preparation, maintenance and routine repairs of bicycles and electric-assisted bicycles

BC02 - Assisting with the sale and hire of sports equipment and accessories

 BC03 - Carrying out the preparation, maintenance and routine repairs of snow sports equipment (CCS) 

• Preparing bicycles and e-bikes: unpacking, assembling and fitting with safety accessories.
• Sort waste; position and arrange bicycles and electric-assist bicycles on sales shelves or in the hire fleet.
• Inspect equipment returned from hire, carry out routine maintenance on bicycles and e-bikes: clean, adjust, lubricate and replace worn parts.
• Adjust bicycles and e-bikes to suit users’ body types
• Carry out routine repairs to mechanical, hydraulic and electrical components.
• Assist with the hire service at a retail outlet, demonstrating knowledge of the range of bicycles, types of cycling and the relevant adjustments.
• Use IT resources and software to enhance professional practice and knowledge of the cycling sector.

Candidates may therefore validate the 2nd and 3rd modules through accreditation of prior learning (VAE) or through supplementary training:

BC03 - Carry out the preparation, maintenance and routine repairs of snow sports equipment (CCS) 

Throughout the course, learners receive personalised support with regular monitoring by the teaching team and progress reviews to tailor the learning to each individual’s needs.

The work placement also enables learners to develop their professional skills in a real-world setting.

Skills are assessed progressively through role-plays, practical exercises, professional projects and assessments carried out throughout the course.

For this Skills Module, which forms part of the Professional Qualification, ongoing assessments (ECF) are organised throughout the course to evaluate the candidate’s progress and their mastery of professional skills.

The final examination takes place before a two-member assessment panel comprising professionals from the sector. It comprises a professional role-play exercise and an interview based on the professional portfolio (DP), which highlights the experience and skills developed by the candidate.

The examination board either validates or rejects the skills module, which is valid for a period of 5 years.

During the final assessment of the Professional Qualification, the examination board validates all or part of the Professional Qualification. In the event of partial validation, the professional competence certificates (CCP) (or competence blocks) obtained are valid for a period of 5 years.

The candidate may also, within five years, complete the missing blocks and, by accumulating these blocks, sit the final interview to obtain the Professional Qualification in its entirety.
