At the end of their training, professional ornamental sculptors will be able to:
- master the craft techniques of woodworking to create, reproduce or restore objects, decorative elements or furniture.
- from sketches, create ornamentation for furniture, decorative elements for interior architecture (panelling, mantels, doors, balustrades) as well as decorative objects (clocks, lamp bases, etc.).
- from a commission, sketch the motif, then make a plaster model before moving on to the actual production to then shape the volumes and sculpt the details.
Execution of an ornament and modelling
Preparatory study of the work to be made (drawing, modelling): preparation of hand tools, clamping equipment, machines - choice, cutting and working of wood - assemblies - setting up the piece to be sculpted.
Creating the sculpture: transfer the drawing or model to the line, find the backgrounds, shape the volumes, execute the details of the model in low or high relief

Direct entry into employment mainly with artisan cabinetmakers and restorers of antique furniture and objects or in a high-end manufacturing workshop.
Possible further study with a vocational baccalaureate or master's certificate in a woodworking speciality (cabinetmaking, woodcarving, etc.) leading to a Diplôme de fin d'études secondaires des métiers d'art (DFESMA) specialising in sculpture or to another CAP Tourneur or Marqueteur to broaden the range of skills.
