BTS MEC – Economic Management of the Construction Industry

The Advanced Technician in Construction Economic Management is a professional involved in all stages of a construction operation: from the expression of the need to build expressed by the customer to the handover of the keys to the building on acceptance.

The aims of the course are:

• to provide expertise in project-related prescriptions and economics,
• to ensure that the ambitions of the works programme are in line with the projected and imposed budget,
• to be able to advise on the technical choices that will enable all current regulations to be complied with,
• to be able to analyse quotes from companies and advise the project owner on the choice of companies
• to carry out financial monitoring of the works

The course is organised into several skill modules, allowing for step-by-step progression. It alternates between theoretical input, practical application and assessment sessions in order to promote practical and progressive learning.

Throughout the course, learners receive personalised support with regular monitoring by the teaching team and progress reviews to tailor learning to each individual’s needs.

The work placement also enables students to develop professional skills in a real-world setting.

Skills are assessed progressively through role-plays, practical exercises, professional projects and assessments carried out throughout the course.

Our teaching methodology prioritises a practical, career-focused approach: case studies, role-plays, simulated scenarios and collaborative activities enable learners to learn in conditions that closely resemble the real-world workplace.

Maximum total duration of 3,650 hours, including 2,300 hours in a company and 1,350 hours at the training centre.

The BTS in Construction Economics Management is open to all holders of a baccalaureate: vocational baccalaureate in the field (mainly building design technician) and STI2D (architecture and construction option in particular), general baccalaureate, etc. Other profiles please contact us for tests and/or interview.

Monitoring and individualisation

Positioning upstream of training entry.

Assessments are organised throughout the course and at the end of the programme, in accordance with the qualification framework. Assessment tests may take the form of in-course assessments (CCF) and/or final examinations.

Support with exam preparation is provided throughout the course to help candidates succeed.

If a candidate fails to obtain the qualification, they retain the credits for the modules they have passed and may retake the remaining examinations at a later date. The modules passed remain valid for 5 years.

This qualification is awarded following validation by the academic examination board.

The BTS is designed to enable direct entry into the world of work. Holders of this BTS qualification can pursue careers as:

- construction economist;
- cost estimator;
- project manager;
- site manager;
- BIM coordinator;
- project manager. 

Working in various types of organisations:

- in a construction economist’s practice, where they act as a key partner to the architect, collaborating with technical design offices and contractors involved in the project;
- in a construction company, within the design department or overseeing works;
- in an engineering consultancy, an architectural practice, etc.;
- on the client side (property developer, local authority, social housing provider, etc.). 

However, further study is an option, leading to a vocational bachelor’s degree or entry into an engineering school specialising in this field.
