The holder of this diploma is a highly qualified worker capable of occupying a job corresponding to the complex activities of the marine carpenter trade. They are involved in the construction and repair of ships made of wood and associated materials. They are skilled in the use of interfaces between wood and other products (steel, light alloys, composites, etc.), and plotting is one of the strong points of their trade. His skills enable him to work in the prototyping and modelling sector of major yachting companies.

In their field of work, holders of the BP marine carpenter qualification are required to:

- independently carry out complex operations,

- lead a team,

- maintain relations between the company's various departments and customers.

All their tasks are carried out in compliance with the rules for preventing occupational hazards.


The course is organised into several skill modules, allowing for step-by-step progression. It alternates between theoretical input, practical application and assessment sessions to encourage hands-on, progressive learning.

BC01 – Technical analysis of a vessel

  • Searching for, collecting and receiving documents and information

  • Drawing up and completing working drawings

BC02 - Preparation for construction

  • Interpret and analyse operational and management documents
  • Draw up bills of quantities for materials and components
  • Establish or finalise the construction process

BC03 - Layout and marking-out

  • Drawing the ship’s layout to scale
  • Carrying out the necessary layout work for construction

BC04 - Construction and supervision of works on site

  • Analysing and characterising an existing vessel
  • Organising and securing the work area
  • Removing and dismantling components
  • Managing material handling
  • Leading a team
  • Communicating and engage in dialogue in a professional context
  • Prepare an oral and written progress report
  • Explain an approach or procedure to the team

BC05 - Manufacturing a complex structure

  • Procuring and preparing materials, products and equipment
  • Carry out machining and shaping operations
  • Carry out forming, assembly and installation operations
  • Install equipment and networks
  • Carry out reinforcement lamination operations
  • Carry out sealing, finishing and treatment operations
  • Monitor the manufacturing process and carry out quality control
  • Maintain workstations, equipment and tools

BC06 - Communication and understanding of the world

BC07 - Mathematics – Physical Sciences

Throughout the programme, learners receive personalised support with regular monitoring by the teaching team and progress reviews to tailor learning to each individual’s needs.

The work placement also enables learners to develop professional skills in a real-world setting.

Skills are assessed progressively through role-play scenarios, practical exercises, professional projects and assessments carried out throughout the course.

Our teaching methodology prioritises a practical, industry-focused approach: case studies, role-plays, practical scenarios and collaborative activities enable learning in conditions that closely mirror the real-world workplace.

Maximum total duration of 3,640 hours, including 2,840 hours in a company and 800 hours at the training centre.
The duration of the course is indicative and will be determined according to your profile.

Have a CAP in marine carpentry or a complementary qualification in naval carpentry in wood and associated materials, or provide proof of five years' professional experience related to the purpose of the Brevet professionnel Charpentier de marine.

Assessments are organised throughout the course and at the end of the programme, in accordance with the qualification framework. Certification assessments may take the form of in-course assessments (CCF) and/or final examinations.

Support with exam preparation is provided throughout the course to help candidates succeed.

This qualification is awarded following validation by the academic examination board.

If a candidate fails to obtain the qualification, they retain the credits for the modules they have passed and may retake the outstanding examinations at a later date. The modules passed remain valid for 5 years.
