By the end of the course, learners will be able to:

  • Carry out a functional analysis to verify the organisation’s financial equilibrium
  • Analyse the profit and loss statement step by step in order to explain the wealth created, distinguishing between the company’s various functions (sales, procurement, production, human resources, investment, financing, as well as exceptional items not directly linked to the business)

Introduction and analysis of profitability

  • Economic profitability: Definition, calculation and importance for the business.
  • Financial profitability: Definition, calculation and impact on investors.
  • Operational profitability: Definition, calculation and use in day-to-day management.
  • Key profitability ratios: Gross margin, Net margin, ROI, ROE

Financial leverage

  • Impact of debt on profitability: Definition of financial leverage, example of a leverage calculation, advantages and risks of debt
  • Financial risk management: strategies to minimise risks associated with debt, hedging techniques against financial risks
  • Calculations and interpretation of profitability ratios: case study of a real or fictitious company, calculation of various profitability ratios, interpretation of the results obtained.
  • Discussion and analysis: analysis of the implications of the results for the management of the company, identification of the company’s strengths and weaknesses, analysis of financial equilibrium and risk management

Analysis of financial equilibrium and risks

  • Financial stability: definition of solvency, liquidity and financial autonomy; principles of a sound financing structure.
  • Key ratios for analysing risks: Liquidity ratio, Solvency ratio, Debt ratio, Profitability ratio
  • Warning signs of financial risks: identifying financial imbalances, examples
  • Analysing a company’s situation: a case study to identify and interpret financial risks, Discussion of possible corrective measures.

Proactive management of financial risks

  • Anticipating financial risks: strategies to limit the impact of risks (cash flow management, debt renegotiation, hedging against risks).
  • Examples of practical actions: reducing fixed costs, optimising stock management, improving margins.

Performance measurement and profitability strategies

  • Measuring financial performance: analysing financial results using key ratios; adjusting strategies to improve profitability.

This course is aimed at directors of micro-enterprises and SMEs, business founders or buyers, operational managers, department heads, sales representatives or account managers, as well as any employee wishing to learn the basics of financial analysis.

It is also suitable for professionals who are not finance specialists but wish to better understand and interpret the company’s key financial documents (balance sheet, profit and loss account, key indicators).

It is primarily aimed at companies with fewer than 50 employees operating in sectors covered by AKTO. Funding is also available for companies with more than 50 employees. Please contact us.

  • Technical prerequisites:

Participants should have a basic knowledge of accounting and financial analysis, or have completed an introductory course in financial analysis. They must be familiar with the company’s key financial documents (balance sheet, profit and loss account, cash flow statement)

    The training takes place in person at the centre, which provides the ideal setting for building group dynamics, encouraging interactive discussions between trainees and making use of professional equipment.

They will thus be able to support strategic decision-making, make financial recommendations and contribute more effectively to the company’s financial management.
